The current state sales tax rate in Pennsylvania (PA) is 6%. The total tax rate might be as high as 8% depending on local municipalities. Pennsylvania is one of the few states with a statewide sales tax that requires businesses to submit and remit electronically. Anyone selling tangible personal property or providing taxable services in the state must collect sales and use tax. In Pennsylvania, everyone who leases, rents, or uses tangible personal property or rents hotel rooms must register with the state and get a valid sales tax license. In Pennsylvania, Amazon owns and operates fulfillment centers. For sellers that participate in Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program, this physical presence, or nexus, triggers a sales tax requirement. Furthermore, beginning July 1, 2019, remote sellers that make more than $100,000 in sales in Pennsylvania must collect and remit sales tax.
